Yesterday, in Curitiba, during its match against Atlético-PR, Corinthians managed to be ahead in the score, 2-1, after beginning the match losing by a 1-0. However, at about 89′, Atlético-PR got a tie after Cadu, of Corinthians, accidentally scored against its own team. With the tie, Corinthians was unable to put an end of the sequence of nine — now ten — games without a victory in the 2007 Brazilian Championship.
Corinthians played badly during the first half, with its players not making good advances against Atlético-PR, and not finishing the attacks with precision as well. Things got worst when at 45′, Atlético-PR scored with Rodolpho after a corner kick, opening the score for the team from Curitiba.
During the second half, Corinthians came back better and Willian scored two goals for the team, who has showed to be one of the most important players of Corinthians nowadays. However, after the scored turned to its favor, Corinthians let its guard down and Atlético-PR stated to make several dangerous counter-strikes, until one of them resulted in its second goal, even by a Corinthians player.
This most recent result doesn’t help at all the team during this current crisis. Corinthians is not playing a good football for quite some time, and it is the second game in a row that Corinthians let the victory slip trought its fingers, giving the adversary a tie right on the end (against Flamengo, the team was winning by a 2-0 score but Flamengo managed to tie the match).
Something has to be done… fast. All the problems that happens outside the field are taking its toll in the team’ morale, no doubt. But the ones that can help the most are the players themselves. They need to put their thing together and focus, because it is unbelievable that they can let almost victories like those become ties in the end.
